2025 Fall Shakey Lakes Association Meeting Notes

9:00 AM — Meeting called to order

Approval Items

  • Approval of agenda

  • Spring meeting notes available on SLA website

  • Approval of Spring meeting notes

Treasurer Report

  • Checking Account Balance: $2,066

  • Expenses:

    • 4th of July Boat Parade: $301

      • Advertising

      • Ice cream

  • Certificate of Deposit (CD):

    • Balance: $5,600

    • Current term: 7-month CD

    • Interest rate: 5.5%

    • Set to auto-renew in June/July

 

Treasurer report approved

4th of July Boat Parade Recap

  • 18 boats participated in the parade

  • Weather may have contributed to lower participation this year

  • 99 ice cream tickets were distributed

  • 22 tickets were redeemed at the snack shop

 

Learn-to-Ski Program

  • Six new skiers learned to water ski on Shakey Lakes

  • Instruction utilized the boom before progressing to long-line skiing behind the boat

  • It was encouraging to see participants skiing later in the day and throughout the week

Discussion

  • Proposed an official Learn-to-Ski event followed by a water ski show managed by the Mad City Ski Team

  • Ross and Rob agreed to further pursue the event and discuss funding options

 

Boat Launch

  • No official repairs were scheduled for the boat launch

  • Someone filled the large gap with rocks

WRISC / Lake Management Plan

The Association engaged with Lindsey Peterson at WRISC regarding funding and grant opportunities for a new lake management plan.

Key Points

  • Estimated study cost: approximately $13,000

  • WRISC agreed to assist with grant writing

  • Previous lake studies were completed in:

    • 2016

    • 2003

Discussion

  • Members discussed what actions would be available to the Association if funding for the study is pursued

 

Vote

  • A vote was approved to support pursuing the study and determining next steps for the Association.
