WRISC

Update provided after our meeting:

They are currently working on another round of proposals and will see how things unfold in terms of funding, with more clarity expected by early August. They’ll likely be out at the lake in mid-July to conduct a phragmites survey. They also spoke with Connie Westrich from the county board, who requested a visit to survey the target areas for the erosion project for invasive species. In addition, their watercraft inspector will be stationed at Shakey Lakes on July 5th for the Great Lakes Landing Blitz, and one of the conservation officers will likely stop by as well.

Open Discussion:

Several members have expressed concern regarding the current dock placement at the boat launch, the removal of one of the launch access points, and the presence of a significant gorge that poses a risk of damaging boat tires or hulls.

County Response from Jason Carivou on June 4, 2025

"The Parks Committee did take a look at the dock and discussed its placement; however, they felt given the current situation with that landing that the dock is in the best possible place. The major concerns were that the dock is currently acting as a makeshift barrier that is keeping sand from flowing into the landing area. They felt that if the dock was moved to the center (in between the two pads) that the sand would just wash into the right pad up to the dock making the right-side of the dock unusable anyways. The left-side of the dock is also half-covered with sand, which would make using that side alone difficult. We do not have approval at this point to do any dredging on this landing.

The Committee did discuss the need to rehabilitate this landing – which would include a barrier to block the sand from washing into the launch and dredging. This is something they are going to continue to look into and see if a project can be put together to make some improvements ."
